Skyler Takes to the Sky (Age: 8, Bothell, Washington -U.S., ) Skyler started skating when he was 4-years-old. His big brother Josh had taken him out to the skate shops and they watched videos together. He had the Tony Hawk video game running through his head all the time. For Christmas, his brother got him a skateboard. Skyler told his family over dinner that day that he would practice every day (even on his birthday) until he went pro. He has stuck to that pledge. That next summer Skyler entered his first contest. He was by far the smallest and youngest in the competition but he took 4th place. Winning a board was all he needed to cement his drive.
A month later he was spotted skating a park in Seattle before a Tony Hawk show. Jones Soda Co. wanted to sponsor him. More competitions and more wins followed. Skylers room began to look like a skate shop. That year he was also sponsored by Quiksilver and Randoms hardware (a sponsorship he negotiated himself). Skyler highlighted last year by making the finals at the nationwide Sound and the Fury Competition. He came in 17th over all in the finals competing against all ages and the very best from around the country.
Skyler recently did a demo at the grand opening of his park sponsor THE BLOC. Skyler has had articles written in the papers and always is stopped to answer the big question, "How old are you?" What is the best character trait for Skyler is how caring he is of other kids. He will help others learn a trick when he should be practicing himself. He even gave his prize board to a younger competitor at a competition because his board was too big for him. Skyler wants kids to have as much fun as he does reaching for the Sky!
