Summer Camps
Comedy Summer Camp (Age: 17, San Diego, CA) Comedy summer camps are becoming all the rage. At the ComedySportz High School Summer League, the laughs are not the only thing filling the air. Learning to face the challenges life throws at you also takes center stage.
One game called "Forward/Reverse" requires the thespians to make up a scene based on a topic suggested by the audience, then perform it backward and forward many times at the referee's command, making them struggle to keep their story line intact.
At a recent performance, a spectator suggested the topic of twins. The performers pretended to be Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. One twin complained about her need for more breathing room. Later, the bored pair pretended to trash a hotel room and call the paparazzi to show what they had done.
In these productions, the performers aren't the only stars. Audience participation is encouraged, and, at times, required.
