INVENTIONS CENTER

Can You Spell Sulphur Dioxide??

(Age: 17, Beachwood, OH) Ann Lais engineer father introduced her to Dr. C. C. Liu, the director of the Electronic Design Center, and Professor of Chemical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University. Liu helped nurture the young womans scientific interest and mentored her while she invented a microsensor that can monitor sulfur dioxide emissions ## the major cause of acid rain. Sulphur dioxide is quite simply a disaster for the environment. Forests dwindle and die, monuments crumble, drinking water is spoiled and people gasp for air. Ann discovered that the voltage of the measuring current increases in proportion to the amount of sulphur dioxide in the air. This meant that she had discovered the core of an inexpensive electro-chemical SO2 detector.

Hello my name is Paul jr. I'm a 13 year old boy who has a nack for inventing. I first started tinkering around with gizmos and gadgets when I was about 7 years old and ever since I've had a taste for making something that could change the world. KidKountry is acually how I figured out that my inventions could do something good. I recieved a large envalope in the mail with the free info kit that I had ordered. The next thing that I knew I had drawn up plans for the water feeder and the pogo-opter and was mailing my own info to the company. A couple of weeks later I recieved a phone call telling me that they had thought that my inventions were great and that they thought that I could someday be a very rich man. But this is where everything goes wrong because he was talking to my father about all of this. So soon he asks my father his age and my dad tells them that this phone call was regarding his son (aka me) and they act real fine about it and say 'oh yeah very good very good thank you, And we should be calling you in the next few days.' So a few days roll along by , finally two weeks have gone by and still no call. So we use the caller id and call back and it turns out that they had no intention of calling us back ever. ...
