POETRY OF THE WEEK

" Black Angel "

BY: Michael Sylvester
Watford, England

I walk the night street,
Where, dark shades surround me.
A shadowed ally I know well.
Unearthly noises adorn the room,
Through the door,
Which down the ally,
Is hidden by shadow.

I feel the night air,
Inhaled by the twisted minds around me.
Twelve emerge,
I know them well
Our black wings spread.
Wings of beauty,
Wings of secrets.

I see the night ones,
Who still continue to astound me.
I was chosen,
And I am their angel.
But, through their own will,
Through their own pain,
They love me.

I mastered the night rules,
Control all in it because I have found me.
And in knowing myself,
I know what's not myself,
Well enough to be given,
My wings,
Dark, beautiful.

I know the night world,
In it I live an illusion where no one will ground me.
In the shadows I hide,
When my wings aren't spread,
Chosen to control them,
Whom don't know myself.
But it's okay, I live an illusion

TALENT OF THE WEEK

Rockin' Jacob Burdock

Talent Of The Week (Age: 10, Detroit, Michigan -U.S.) Jacob is a guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist. He goes by the stage name of “SnakeDawg” and was born July 9,1993. At a young age, Jake was attracted to many forms of music. He began pestering his parents when he was 4-years-old for an electric guitar as well as for D.J. turntables. His parents instilled hard work ethics and respect in him at a young age and they seem to be paying dividends for Jake.

Only after exceeding his academic goals did his parents reward him with his first electric guitar at 6-years-old. Jake is enthusiastic about learning and therefore transferring his passion of learning science and art to his guitar was a much faster transition for him. His uncanny talent and rare ability to focus was the only thing he needed to begin guitar lessons two years earlier than the typical young man his age.

The last four years have been an amazing journey for Jake. Not many musicians play in front of more than 1,000 people in a lifetime. Jake has played in front of more than 100,000 people by the ripe old age of ten. He played the national anthem on guitar at Ford Field in Detroit in 2002 in front of 33,000 Detroit Lions fans. He later played for about 9,000 people at an Uncle Kracker concert when he rocked the house with Jocaine at the State Fairgrounds. In December 2003, he played the national anthem at a jam-packed Ford Field in front of over 63,000 Detroit Lions fans.
